There was a recent court case involving a man by the name of Jason Ara Erpinar, who has been convicted of sexually abusing three different women. One of the females was his ex-girlfriend and the other two were women he met on Myspace. Erpinar had originally plead guilty to these acts which lead to a conviction giving him 15 years of prison time, but he changed his plea to not guilty and tried to defend himself which could lead to a maximum sentence of 24 years. The three women that were raped do not know each other, two of them were intoxicated when they were raped while the other woman was forcibly raped. Two of the women gave statements to the court, one woman went as far to say Erpinar "was less than human." Prosecutors say that the first rape was in 2007 and the last one occurred in 2009.
Deputy District Attorney Mark Birney said he is still deciding what sentence to seek but told The Times Erpinar “is a serious and violent sexual predator…who needs to be separated from society for the longest period possible.” Erpinar's case is a perfect example to show just how dangerous social networking cites can be. In a world that is becoming more and more involved in social networking, predators like Erpinar can thrive. Even for the less violent predators the amount of personal information that is displayed on some of these social cites makes it easier than it has ever been to know important details about their prey. With the increasing rates of people joining social networking cites crimes, like the ones committed by Erpinar using social cites to acquire victims, with rise as well. Erpinar is set to face sentencing in October. I would love to see crimes like this eliminated from our world, but honestly I don't think we will ever be able to completely stop crimes like this.

Remember to keep your articles global or international in scope. Leave your opinion out of the analysis. Despite being a US-centric story, you could have written about how social media can affect crimes globally. Be sure to do so in future blogs. Also, be sure to include the link in the blog.
