Blog #2 Apple Urged by China Dissident to Act Against One-Child Rule

China one of the largest countries in the world is one country that puts a national one-child policy.  This means that one child is permitted per family.  So once you have one child you will be put on birth control and have to show the government.  No one should have to tell you that you can only have one kid and that’s it.  China has a one-child policy to help regulate the progression of people living in the country.  What is even worse is that some of the women get pregnant and are forced to have an abortion.    The women have no choice but to get rid of the baby even if they want it.  This is the removal of the basic rights a woman should have at all times.
We’ve all heard of Apple Inc. who made the iPod, iPhone, and other electronic devices.  Well the company also has a manufacturing plant in China, where most of the products they sell are made.  This gives Apple a lot of influence, which could help convince China to return rights back to the people.  Chen Guangcheng who is the Chinese dissident said “Apple Inc. should take a more outspoken role criticizing China for its one-child policy”.  Chen believes that if Apple makes their presence known about the human rights issues then China will have to respond to it.  Chen says, “There’s a huge social responsibility for these international corporations like Apple.”  “After being arrested do to human rights movements in China, Chen went to the U.S. embassy to seek help”.  He received help and studied at New York University.  Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, was contacted by Chen along with other supporters of human rights to convince him to take some action against China’s policies.  Apple has also said “they will not do business with suppliers who can’t meet its code of conduct”.
China’s one-child policy is an example of a social problem.  The reason being that it can be solved but the government has to change its policy.  This is so wrong and violates the people of China’s human rights.  It isn’t fair for the women of China to be forced to take birth control.  It’s also not fair that a family can’t have more than one kid.  Having a Communist nation isn’t all that great when you think about it.  Sure you might be equal to everyone else but it also means that you don’t have a choice when it comes to the government.  If I was in a Communist nation were the government controlled every action I made, I would feel like I am property and not an individual.  Another issue that comes up with China is globalization.  Do to competiveness jobs that would normally be done in the USA are now being outsourced to China, which means that Americans are losing their jobs.  This article opened my eyes to a Communist issue.  In a Communist nation the government controls everything including how many children you have.  This is a huge reason why I don’t support Communism and the rise of Communism truly is a social issue.
