Blog #2 Persecution and Labels
There are many rights we as Americans have that other countries do not have openly or freely. In America we tend to serve a variety of religions and all are tolerated. We don’t often argue over amounts of land or resources due to our sect of religion. Most people do not have to worry about being murdered by the government or main military forces because we are Christians or of any other type of religion. In countries like Pakistan people are not allowed the same freedom. Christians are considered to be looked down upon in Pakistan. Anyone who threatens the teachings of the Quran is subject to be killed. In the article “ Persecution of Christians Not a New Phenomenon” , Rimsha Masih was convicted of blasphemy because a religious leader claimed to have seen her burning pages of the Quran which is strongly looked down upon in Islamic countries. A witness later came to her rescue and pointed out that it was the very same religious leader who pointed her out for blasphemy that has set her up by burning pages out of the Quran himself. There was also another case in which on December 25th of 2003 assailants threw a grenade at a Presbyterian Church near Sialkot, Killing three young girls on Christmas. There have been several different attacks on Christians in Pakistan and other nations like it due to religious intolerance. This is a violation on human rights for any human being around the globe. Any and every human around the globe should have the right to have a belief in a faith. A random attack on people because of what they believe in is not a fair and justifiable way to run a country. This also ties back into racism globally. Many people are attacked or killed around the world because they are of a certain race in which they had no control over, but have received their skin pigmentation from birth. If you were to think far back enough, prejudice against religions or even more so a race affects human rights as well, how we label people puts them in a type of social class rather it be the lower class (poor) or upper (rich) class and determines how they are treated in society. Christians in Pakistan are evidently considered to be what we would call lower class citizens because they are treated terrible due to their religion and are not considered to be a people of very high value. The killing of people because of their belief in a faith is a violation to human rights and must be stopped. The killing and labeling of people because of their race and/or nationality is a violation of human rights and must be stopped. All humans should be allowed to live peacefully for who they are, as long as they are not being destructive and harmful to others, and also they should be allowed to believe in a faith that makes them happy as long as it is not destructive or harmful to others.
