This article is about the inequality that has been taking place in the schools in the UK. They aren't allowing girls to study physics in co-ed schools because physics is considered to be a “boys” subject and the only way girls can participate in physics is if they go to an all-girls school. It is even predicted that the schools in areas like Scotland and Wales are excluding girls in the study of physics. Recently, teachers have been asked to challenge the stereotype that boys are the only ones that should be able to take physics classes. Physics is such a big deal in the UK because once a person graduates with a degree in physics they make about $100,000 salary. Even though there has been an increase of girls studying physics in the UK there are also an even bigger increase of boys studying physics also so there really hasn't been any improvement. However, the Department of Education are trying their best to give girls an equal opportunity to purse physics and to attract more girls to try physics that wouldn't have ordinarily chosen to do so.
This goes to show that women are still being discriminated against all over the world. As we talked about it class the society places stereotypes on people that are hard to get pasted. Women have also been seen as inferior to men in history, they have been expected to stay in the background and to stay at home to take care of kids. In this century women have been stepping outside of those expectations and have been getting an education as well as coming up in the workforce. Although women have done all these things it is still hard for them in the society because the stereotypes are always being thrown around. It is a good thing that they are working towards allowing girls to study physics in co-ed schools because. The girls need an equal opportunity to prove to the UK that they are just as competent in physics as boys.
