Blog #7: Human Rights Watch: Nigeria, radical Islamist sect likely committed ‘crimes against humanity

Analysis

“Nigerian security forces and the radical Islamist Boko Haram sect likely committed crimes against humanity” they did this by killing their citizens and torturing them.  They ended up killing “30 civilians” with a machine gun and showed no mercy.  The International Crime Court has been called to evaluate the situation and take measure to bring justice.  “The sect has killed both Christians and Muslims in their attacks, as well as soldiers and security forces.”  There have been many attempts to try and kill citizens along with important government officials.  The military was later questioned about the incident and they responded by saying they had nothing to do with it.  They denied the whole incident and say the deaths were not by machine guns.  “The report also claimed the police and military routinely kill and extort civilians.”  So basically the enforcement in the country has violated the citizens human rights by killing their citizens without any reason.  It is just murder and the government is just “denying justice to the victims.”  The government has killed based on religions and killing them because they wouldn’t convert to their religion.  The Boko Haram is also in control of the government and is trying to convert Christians into Islam’s and if they wouldn’t, they would end up died.  Killings like this have occurred in the country before and are likely to keep happening.

Summary

Over thirty citizens of Nigeria were killed by Nigerian security do to religious differences.  Freedom of religion is a human right that has been taken away for years.  How can the citizens be safe if their law enforcement is corrupt?  When later questioned about the incident, the Nigerian government denied taking any part in the murders.  The victims were shot with machine guns and this hasn’t been the only time an incident like this has occurred in the country.  Murders like this have been happening in Nigeria for years and it is usually because of religious differences.  The United Nations should get involved in this situation and talk to the government about the murders.  The International Crime Court has gotten involved and has started investigating the killings.  Tensions in Nigeria are likely to keep getting worse and keep happening.
