This week’s discussion was on war. War is a very controversial and universal topic. During war many things happen to soldiers or just citizens in which they happen toviolate the rights of many people. For example, during war it is very common for female soldiers to be sexually assaulted, more so common for female soldiers to be raped than it is for male soldiers universally. The odd thing discovered is that the most common perpetrators of sexual violence in wartime are husbands, partners or other family members, not combatants. Also rape is used as a weapon of war by governments and rebels to advance military and political goals. In Congo a major part of the reason for the high levels of sexual violence appears to be that the military command system is too dysfunctional, disorganized, fragmented and corrupt to prevent undisciplined, and often unpaid, troops from indulging in opportunistic looting and rape on a large scale. This is something to be taken very seriously. Rape being used as a weapon in the military is notvery honorable at all. Rape is a very serious thing universally it changes and affects many people’s lives. Military personnel should not have to worry about sexual assault while serving in the military and serving their country.  In many countries this is a problem. Militaries should be better disciplined and structured to where soldiers would not have to worry about their safety while serving their country. It has actually been recognized that in many court cases involving the military many rapists have gotten off of their rape charges. This is something that Americans and all other militaries around the world need to work on. Rape especially should not be concentrated on as a military weapon of war. It should not be used to advance military and political goals.
