"A mother has admitted shooting her
three-year-old son and drowning her four-year-old daughter before taking
a bus to a hospital as she had a headache and stomach pains, police
said.Chelsea Thornton,
23, faces two counts of first-degree murder after police said she
confessed to the killings at her apartment in New Orleans, Louisiana,
where she had moved just a week ago.The children's grandmother found the bodies of Chelsea Adams, 4, and Kendall Adams, 3, in the bathtub of the home around 5.30pm on Wednesday and immediately called police.
Officers swooped on the mother and
she confessed to the killings in a taped interview with investigators,
they said. She was arrested at 11pm.
The investigation continues as authorities try to unearth what led the mother to kill the children."
The reason I chose this story about crime is because I actually talked to the sister of Chelsea Thornton last night, October 23, 2012. She was leaving last night by train to go be with her sister and family in this time of devastation. So I can analyse the story based off what the sister told last night at The Depot. According to the sister, I will not state her name, Chelsea is bipolar schizophrenic which is what caused her to commit this crime. She also said that her sister needs some help rather then getting sentenced to jail. Apparently Louisiana doesn't have any mental institutions to put Chelsea in so her family is trying to send her away to get help. Chelsea's sister stated that she was taking medicines for her condition which had her under control. However she stopped taking it and the medicines were wearing off. Ms. Thornton committed the crime of murder of her own children because of an illness she had. The court should not, in my opinion, penalize her for this reason. To murder your own children, I'm sure, in court she will plea insane. Chelsea is not the only person in this world that is bipolar schizophrenic, therefore I think this could be considered a global problem. How many other people with this illness all over the world has committed crimes like murdering your own children? I'm sure many people have committed crimes because of the voices in their heads telling them to hurt others before they hurt you. knowing this, in disusing crime, I think criminals with illness like that should not be put in jail but put in an institute.
