Blog #8: Syria Crisis: 28,000 disappeared, say rights groups

Analysis

There is a lot of violence going on in the country of Syria, which has escalated in crime for some time now.  Apparently according to the United Nations there are currently more than 28,000 people missing do to anti-government protests.  According to the an “Online activist group Avaaz says, "nobody is safe" from a deliberate government campaign of terror.”  Basically anyone who opposes the government is not safe.  The UN Human Rights Council has intended to meet with the group and discuss what is happening in Syria.  The government of Syria however has not commented on the disappearances so far and most likely will never comment on the situation.  “Avaaz said it had gathered testimony from Syrians who say husbands, sons and daughters were forcibly abducted by pro-government forces.”  It is hard for the citizens of Syria to even go walk the streets without worrying about the chances of abduction from the government.  "Whether it is women buying groceries or farmers going for fuel, nobody is safe."  The government
has denied their citizens basic human rights by not allowing them to go against government rulings.

Summary

Syria has a major problem right now dealing with denying its citizens their basic human rights by not allowing them to go against government rulings.  Over 28,000 citizens of Syria have been abducted and are nowhere to be found.  This in my opinion is one of the worst things the government can do to its own people.  Citizens are to afraid to even go out and walk the streets because they are afraid that the government will come and take them away just because they don’t agree with their policies.  Most citizens can’t even get necessary items like groceries without having to risk their lives.  The problem has gotten so bad that the United Nations has stepped in to deal with the problem.  Hopefully they can fix the problem, which has lasted a while.  I believe that the United Nations can change the outcome of Syria and bring peace to the country.
