This
article is about the new ICRC website that will enable people who were separated
by conflict or disaster to get back in touch.
The deputy head of the Central Tracing Agency and Protection Division of
the ICRC, Olivier Dubois, is who created the site to help improve people’s
chances of finding those they are looking for.
The website is familylinks.icrc.org, which was helpful to many loved
ones to be able to exchange a few reassuring words or to be reunited with
them. This site is user-friendly with
Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies for people who want to restore contact with
relatives during or after a crisis. They
think because of this site, they may see an increase in requests to the
National Societies and the ICRC, and they hope to improve public awareness of
the service and support for it. Dubois
created this site mainly because he sees the problem of separation very
widespread. This is because of wars or
disasters. It can take up to years for
families to not be separated.
I would
say this is related to my topic of family because many families go through separation
and this is a good resource for loved ones to use. Family is not replaceable, so this is why it
is important for most people to find their family members. We have many separation factors in today’s
world which will continue, so we having resources to find loved ones is a great
step in the right direction. It is sad to see family members lose each other,
because of separation factors because it’s not by choice. I understand that today not every family member
is going to get along but these people who choose to use this site are for
those who couldn’t have prevented the separation.
