2 Insider Attacks Kill 6 Coalition Members in Afghanistan

Six members of the American-lead colalition were killed on Saturday and Sunday, taking the number of international troops killed to 51 deaths this year. This number is an increase from last year's 35 international troop deaths. The coalition’s ambition to leave behind a stable Afghanistan that can fight against the Taliban attacks by using the country’s army and police for protection is slowly fading. The spread of insider attacks has led coalition members to distrust Afghan police that they are training and fighting alongside. The first attack took place on Saturday, two british troops were killed by Afghan Local Police at a police checkpoint in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand/ The Afghan Local Police is a village militia that was created and trained by allied Special Forces to further the goal of the Afghan army and police. Other international troops quickly responded to the attack and shot and killed the attacker. The second attack took place on Sunday in Zabul Province. Four coalition service members were killed also by members of the Afghan Police. International Officials and Afghan officials are investigating the second attack because one of the Afghan police were also killed which may confirm that the suspects were apart of the Afghan Local Police force. No one has confirmed the nationality of the troops killed in the second attack but most troops serving at the Zabul Province are American. The causes of the attacks are said to mostly be fueled not only by personal animosity toward international troops but by the infultration of Taliban in the Afghan police. Although most civilian deaths are caused by the Taliban and its allies, many citizens claim that it is the presence of the coalition and foreign troops that cause the violence in the area.
