According to CNN news, in New Jersey a man was accused of killing an innocent six year old and leaving a twelve year old in critical conditions. Thirty-one year old Osvaldo Rivera, of New Jersey, was arrest on Sunday for committing murder, as well as attempting murder. Rivera was arrested for the murder of six year old Dominick Andujar, who was found with incisions in his throat from what assumed to be a knife. In addition, Dominick's older sister suffered stabbed wounds also from Rivera, yet, she managed to get away to a neighbors house. Rivera, also known as "Popeyes", was captured hiding in an apartment between a mattress and the bedroom wall. He was found with evidents all over him. After being found, Rivera admitted he was high off of a drug called "wet" before harming those two children. "Wet" is a combination of PCP-a white crystalline powder that readily dissolves in water or alcohol and has a distinctive bitter chemical taste-and marijuana. This drug has been connected to the homicide of a child once before.
Personally, I think the combination of drugs and murder is a terrible consolidation. Both drugs and homicides, I would consider them to be a social problems. Maybe even global social problems. This guy in this article had a personal issue with drugs, and the personal issue resulted in a murder of a small child. Rivera wasn't the only one effect from his decision to do the drug, six year old Dominick, his twelve year old sister, and the family and friends of these children where similarly effect-and those where only the few people that was effected directly. Many people, from his drug abuse and his wild action of murder, where effected indirectly in the same manner. However, maybe people could learn from this personal issue of Rivera. Drugs can cause you to do things that you may not want to do. Rivera maybe guilty of this crime and he might really didn't mean it, nevertheless, he has to pay the price. He has to deal with the consequences of what came with his personal issue, of doing "wet".

Comments for this blog are the same as those for the first blog. Next week try to find an international story. Or I may have to start counting off more points.
ReplyDeleteYou did a good job with your summary. You even brought in some of the class vocabulary, which is good. You analyzed why this is a social problem, which was also good. However, you didn't pick an article that was international in origin. This is a US-centric article. You did not talk about why it is a global social problem, nor could you because this is domestic story. Also, try to be more objective when you are analyzing the story.
