Blog 7 School Girl Attacked by Taliban for Blogging

On Tuesday in Pakistan a van caring girls home from school was attacked by members of the Pakistani Taliban. The men who approached the van did so because asking for one girl in particular, named Malala. They shot this 14 year old girl in the head because they are threatened by her. The Pakistani Taliban feels threatened by Malala because she is a “relentless” advocate of education for girls. She blogs about the importance of education for girls and for female rights while knowing she was on a TTP hit list. TTP is another name for this Taliban group which is short for Tehrik-i-Taliban. The Taliban cannot stand being challenged by a young girl’s ideas because the basis of their religious, political, and social ideology is anti-women. Malala is in the hospital right now trying to recover from serious injuries to her head and neck. After this assignation attempt, which also left two other school girls wounded, TTP spokesmen Ehsanullah Ehsan claimed that the group who tried to kill Malala will try to do it again if she survives. Ehsanullah Ehsan declared “Any female that, by any means, plays a role in the war against the mujahedeen, should be killed.” Malala became a problem for the TTP when she was just 11. The Taliban reportedly had destroyed more than 200 schools and ordered all girls’ schools shut dorm when Malala slowly began to advocate via blog. In 2009, she started writing a blog for the BBC talking about her dreams for the future and how the Taliban were pushing those aspirations further and further out of reach. Pakistan believes that the fight against the Taliban is an American problem but Malala is helping Pakistanis to realize that it is their own way of life that is threatened by the TTP. She continued to speak out and was the first recipient of her country’s National Peace Award last year.
Opinion:
This article is an opinion article and the writer’s opinion of the members of the Pakistan Taliban are “the world’s worst  cowards” and I agree.  Grown men terrorizing young girls from their own country is a very sad and scary thought. Regardless of how scary the Taliban can be Malala is relentless and she is inspiring for all women and especially for Pakistani women of all ages. Pakistan needs more women brave enough to voice their demands for rights such as education and equality. Pakistani women are so underappreciated that they aren’t even allowed the chance to show their capabilities. In an interview she was asked what she would do if she were president of Pakistan. As a 14 year old, Malala is well beyond her years because her response to the question showed that she understands the needs of women. Most 14 years old if asked that question would have an immature response. The quote from Ehsanullah Ehsan stating that they will try to kill Malala again explains how relentless the Taliban is also.  Pakistan needs Malala to continue to inspire women and threaten the Taliban because each blog she creates are small steps to fighting against the Taliban. The Taliban’s ideology in summary is complete restriction of human rights. Their religious, political, and social beliefs need to be challenged because Pakistani people deserve their human rights such as freedom of speech, gender equality and access to education. I hope Malala survives and recovers well but no matter what happens to her she has already made such an impact for her country and hopefully her avocation for human rights will multiply by the people she inspires.
