“Muslim Worshipers
Shot”
An unlimited number of questions remain
in the minds of many Muslim citizens after their president was “accidentally”
shot while driving through a desert unescorted with security guards. In addition
to the president of Mauritania that was shot, approximately 23 worshipers were
killed in a mosque located in Northern Nigeria. After soldiers in the community
prevented the gang of committing crime last week, the gang members disguised
themselves by dressing in police uniforms and cold-heartedly attacked people
both inside and outside the place of worship despite the fact that many were
saying their morning prayers. This reported incident of violence does not necessarily
shock the people located in the Kaduna region because since June, suicide
bombings occurred at three churches, and Muslims and Christians formed mobs in
order to kill each other; some even going so far as to burn the bodies of their
enemies. The Boko Haram is a notorious rival for many residents in the
community, as they have been involved directly with the deaths of more than 1500
people since 2009 according to a recent report posted by the Human Rights Watch
in earlier October.
The assassins
represent how easy people’s morals and convictions can change when it comes to
a sacred topic, such as religion. The fact that the citizens are warning their
victims ahead of time and are desperate to gain revenge by invading a place of
worship to shoot, stab, and burn bodies of those that have slightly different
religious views than you show how simple minded society today can be. Rather than
focusing on helping others, we have developed the mindset that the world
revolves around us and are more than willing to compromise our values in order
to have things done our way. This wicked mindset many people possess is the
cause of many crimes among various religious groups, and ultimately can lead to
conflict, such as the Holy War. When people take pride in ethnocentrism and
commit actions in an extremist behavior, the world will be harder to adapt to
because we will all spend our time forcing our beliefs upon others rather than
openly discussing our issues. In fact, many people are ignorant because every
religion is similar in many aspects; it is simply the concepts and ways of
analyzing your faith that differs.
